Remember When A 'Doctor Who' Star Played Batman, And Reed Richards Stripped?

Yes, you read that headline correctly, and yes, it is possibly the most ridiculous headline I have written in my entire career. The best part? It happened.

Apparently, "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith was one of several actors who participated in a recent event called "24 Hour Plays" in Los Angeles. For his part in the event, which tasks writers with scripting a play in one night and having actors perform it the next, Smith played a "very confused Batman" who wakes up on an autopsy table.

There's a full report on the event and Smith's performance over at The Telegraph, while The Daily Mail has a bunch of great photos of Smith and some of the other actors. Oh, and Smith's take on Batman wasn't the only comics-friendly performance during the show.

"Grandma's Boy" actor Nick Swardson played Robin to Smith's version of Batman during the short play, which was titled "Gotham Autopsy." The pair were joined by "Kick-Ass" actress Lyndsy Fonseca, among others.

Oh, and about that Reed Richards strip-tease I mentioned in the headline?

Well, "Fantastic Four" actor Ioan Gruffudd (who played the elastic Reed Richards in 2005's "Fantastic Four" and its 2007 sequel) was also among the night's performers, and according to The Daily Mail, he "stunned the audience when he stripped off into woman's lingerie and did a dance in the play about sex therapy." They've posted a photo of the performance that, well... you should probably see for yourself. (Warning: You cannot un-see the photo, so proceed at your own risk.)

So, there you have it: the story behind 100-percent true headline that almost made my head explode.
